About the Orphanage - the need and the vision

JOE ministry wishes to establish a home for orphans within Busia town with a view to molding the parentless children into useful people in future.

A survey conducted by the church within Busia town and its environs revealed that there is a big number of orphans loitering around without any proper places to live. Looking at the orphans makes one shed tears because they are malnourished and without proper dressing. Since most of their parents have died, the children resort to any available means through which they can survive.

The church thus realized the need to group the orphans and bring them up in an atmosphere that can guarantee them a bright future. So far we have managed to group thirty (30) orphans and the number has outnumbered the space with the church compound. We have therefore seen it necessary to establish a home for the orphans.

Our efforts so far have reached the stage of identifying a convenient plot to house them. A plot has already been earmarked for developing and the plot costs K.shs. 160,000/=. On the plot we have started putting up a recreational center, where the orphans can have access to basic education and health care while also learning various skills in vocational training.

We plan to increase the staff undertaking these duties once the center is well established so that the orphans can also attain the same status of education with the rest of the children in all other schools in the country. We are going to hire trained teachers in various skills to mould the children into useful people when they leave the center to become self- reliant.

The task ahead is not easy because we require the following basics besides purchasing the plot: -

(a) Erecting buildings within the center (i.e. administration block, classrooms, dinning hall, fence and etc.
(b) Hiring trained teachers and maintaining them.
(c) Purchasing uniforms and clothes for the orphans.
(d) Constructing sports grounds.
(e) Purchasing text and exercise books and all writing materials.
(f) Feeding the orphans.
(g) Setting up a health center.
(h) Engaging a doctor/nurse.
(i) Purchasing drugs.

As evident, the task ahead is not easy unless we receive financial assistance from well-wishers. We are therefore appealing for any kind of assistance that can help us ensure that these orphans live a life worthwhile and in conformity with the present education standards, at which they can either secure employment or establish themselves self reliantly in 'Jua Kali'.

Any form of assistance will be highly appreciated and will be of immense remedy to the growing number of destitute children whose futures are bleak without proper upkeep by the privileged in the society.
