Mercy and Truth, Your Companions Through Life
a message from Nathan Cundiff

Proverbs 3:3

I heard a story once and it sounded real sweet, however it had a religeous message interweaved with a few scriptural things. The story has a scene where The Lord tells someone that they will have sorrow and suffering as thier companions. Well that really sounds contrary to Jesus Words to us in John's Gospel. "How?" you may be asking. Well here is how, The Word tells us in Isaiah 53 that Jesus bore our sorrow, He carried our grief. Now before you get too offended let me answer the next question by saying that yes, believers have trouble come into thier lives, however, according to the Word trouble is not there to teach you a lesson nor is it some unusual helper of God sent to be your guide through life (i.e. "my circumstances are telling me the will of God"). No it comes as a hinderance to you progressing in God and living in His fulness. (see Mark 4:14-20).

"Well, where does Mercy and Truth fit into this?" This is where it fits, The Word declares in Proverbs that Mercy and Truth are sent by God to keep you. Mercy, of course, is rooted deep in The Father's Love for you and desire to see you do well in life. Truth, is the Word (see John 17), The Wisdom of God. They, are the real companions that Jesus gave us to walk through life with. Now meditate on this statement, Jesus took sorrow and suffering upon HIMSELF in order to give me LASTING PEACE. Jesus DID NOT, tell us that we would walk through life with our head hanging down and our backs broken with heavy burdens. No, on the contrary, He said in John these words concerning trouble "In this world you shall have tribulation (trouble), BUT BE OF GOOD CHEER I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD.

Today, whatever may be happening you can tap into that by leaning on God's grace that has been given to you through Jesus. You can tap into the Love of God that is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. (see Romans 5:5). Remember, God Is Love. Love's best is not to leave you helpless and hopeless at any time. Love's best is to restore you and heal you and make you 100% whole in every way. Turn, my friends, to the Mercy and Truth of Love. Let them always be your companions in the hardest of times because as the Word says, They will always deliver you.
