Father in Heaven,
How much you have given me,
And I take so much for granted?
So today I come before you, to give you thanks,
To praise your name, for the wonders
Under the Sun.
Thank you, Lord,
For hot cocoa,
Quilted blankets,
For furnaces
With lit pilot lights
That bring us through the long winter.
Thank you, Lord,
For full cupboards,
Stuffed bookcases,
Cluttered nooks and crannies,
For the abundance of food and raiment
That portend of your blessings.
But Lord, I also thank you for all the
Mirrors not purchased,
The meals not dined,
The movies not seen,
For such want is needful lest I be spoiled,
Even more, to 'mind me to rely on you.
Lord, there is man you've given me
A goodly man indeed
That I have not thanked,
Nor thanken you for.
Surely all the years on earth would not be enough
In Which to thank ye for him, but anon I thank ye both:
Thank you that he is not:
A brawler
Course tongued
