There was a Manger
There was a Manger
Which cradled a babe
Simple and sweet; men walked for miles
To worship the child
sneezing and wheezing in the hay.
Stars shown bright, turning night into day
So all the country could see
And worship the prince born in a cattle barn.
There was a desert Wind
Which carried a voice
Strong and Wild; men came from near and far
To be baptized in the Jordan
By a man wearing scratchy camel hair
He went ahead, preparing the way
So the whole country would see
The Kingdom he proclaimed from dusk to dawn.
There was a Dove
That alighted on a shoulder
Strong and Regal, into the wilderness he went
To be tempted by Satan
And attended by angels
Rocks stayed stone, he lived by spirit
And not by bread alone
His Father's will he determined to fulfill.
There was a Fire
Shining in His eyes
Powerful and Wise, from shore to shore he went
Preaching the Kingdom
And Healing the Sick
Calling disciples, choosing apostles,
The Light blazing in his soul
He promised to all his followers.
There was a Crowd
Crying, "Crucify!"
Steady and Loving, on the cross he surrendered
His soul to the Father
His blood to the crowd
Death could not hold him
He rose to life forever and gained
The keys to heaven and hell; life for us all.
