Longing to Love You, Lord

Oh Lord, you know me.
You search all of my ways,
None are unfamiliar to you.
I have hidden behind false piety
And contrived to hide myself from you.

But something is telling me its time to let go
Your truth is bringing me to my knees.
Who can hide from you?
You read the truth in the depths of my heart.
So what can I do, but confess to you?

The truth of the matter is my love is lukewarm at best,
And I've always been quite content that way,
As enticing the world has been in drawing away my love,
Reality is I'm mostly in love with myself.

But something is telling me its time to let go
Your truth is bringing me to my knees.
Who can hide from you?
You read the truth in the depths of my heart.
So what can I do, but confess to you?

Though I have prided myself on my Christian love,
My deeds have strayed far indeed,
I am too busy protecting my reputation
To love the people you came to save.
For who can love their brother that does not love God?

But something is telling me its time to let go
Your truth is bringing me to my knees.
Who can hide from you?
You read the truth in the depths of my heart.
So what can I do, but confess to you?

I've reaped the harvest of my folly,
I've eaten my fill of my ways,
And I don't have the strength to love,
For I have forged my own chains,
But, oh lord, I pray:

Fill me with your perfect love,
The love that casts out all fear.
Give me your heart for sinners
May my love for you overflow to my brothers
Oh Lord, this is my prayer:
Restore me now to my first love.
Restore me to my first love.
