Who do you say I am?Je·sus (jzs)n.
1)A teacher and prophet who lived in the first century of this era and whose life and teachings form the
basis of Christianity. Christians believe Jesus to be Son of God and the Christ. [Middle English from Late Latin Iesus, from Greek Iesous, from Hebrew Yesûah, from Yehôsûa, Joshua.] taken from: http://www.dictionary.com okay, lets examine what this dictionary writer says who Jesus is:
"Jesus WAS a TEACHER and a PROPHET whom Christians BELIEVE to be the son of God."
Saying this impicitly implies we are wrong, that Jesus was just a man who taught good and told a few
prophesies that came true, who committed treason against Rome and Israel and was punished accordingly.
Why? WAS--"who lived"--implictly implies he is no longer living, failing to mention the ressurection implies it did not happen. TEACHER and PROPHET--This is the same thing the Jews who crucified him said about him! BELIEVE--not only implictly implies the author does not agree, but also that the author is right that Jesus is in fact NOT the Messiah or the Son of God! Needless to say, a christian did not write this entry. It is also inaccurate. Christianity is not founded on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ (though they are central to our beliefs), but on the Gospel--the Good news that Jesus died for our sins and Rose Again three days later, something this entry completely ignores.
Matthew 16:13-20 |
Who are you, Lord? Shall I answer as the people do, or as Peter did? As Peter did! You are the Christ, Lord Jesus, the son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the grave three days later, and I will follow you unto the very end.
