Deceptions of Beauty

In the distance the supernova dazzles
But destroys in a second what eons built

The hawk swoops down for a tasty treat-
A frog- but poison colors stop his blood.

The volcano leaps and roars in majestic
Glory, but thrill-seekers wait for their doom,

The lion separates a lamb as her stomach
Growls, but the kill is for her young alone.

Contractions rip open the mother's womb,
But her fierce love outweighs the pain.

Hanging on the tree, the son of man is dying,
but as his blood flows, forever flows the River.

- Andrea J. Graham
